2016 NUTRITION SEMINAR SERIES
Health Eating for Healthy Living
Cancer survivors, family and friends are invited to attend a nutrition seminar series presented by Memorial Medical Center’s Cancer Services.
Healthy nutrition plays an important role in preventing cancer, and in the treatment and healing following a diagnosis of cancer. This series will focus on a plant-based diet, weight management and reaching a healthy body weight.
Learn about nourishing the body and creativity in the kitchen for cancer and disease prevention. Sessions will be facilitated by Memorial Medical Center and Sutter Gould Medical Foundation registered dietitians.
- March 12: Recipe Redux – Plant-Based Diet
Sharon Palmer, R.D., author of the Plant-Powered Diet shares the latest science on how plant-based diets can promote optimal health and fight cancer. She will also share inspiration for creating a delicious, plant-powered eating style and demonstrate
- May 11: Eating to Reach and Maintain
a Healthy Body Weight – Part 1
Discussion about nutrition/weight loss, portion sizes, example of a whole day menu with cooking demonstration. Includes the option to evaluate weight, body mass index (BMI) and body composition.
- July 13: Plant-Based Recipes Featuring Summer Produce
Discussion about herbs and spices, with cooking demonstration.
- September 14: Plant-Based Fall Recipes
Includes healthy desserts, with cooking demonstration
- November 9: Eating to Reach and Maintain a Healthy Body Weight – Part 2
Follow up on weight, BMI and body composition. Discussion of food labels, common weight loss pitfalls/myths, healthy holiday tips, with cooking demonstration.
