MODESTO –October 7, 2009 – Memorial Medical Center will host “Beyond Surviving, Where Life and Color Meet,” an exhibit of inspirational art produced by the Art Group of Memorial’s Complementary Therapy Program. The exhibit is scheduled to run Wednesday, October 14 through Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Mistlin Gallery, 1015 J Street, Modesto, CA. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The gallery will remain open for the Third Thursday Art Walk, Thursday, October 15 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
The Art Group is designed to teach participants to unlock their emotions and ideas, and bring clarity and definition to life experiences by expressing themselves through art. The classes are open to cancer survivors and their caregivers.
Complementary therapies are those that can be used along with conventional medicine therapies that have been proven to be safe and effective. While complementary therapies are not used to cure disease, many of them have been shown to help relieve patients’ symptoms and improve the quality of their lives by minimizing the side effects of conventional treatments or by providing psychological and physical benefits.
