    American Diabetes Association
recognizes Memorial Medical Center’s Diabetes Treatment Program

MODESTO –October 28, 2009 – Memorial Medical Center’s Diabetes Treatment Program has been awarded continued recognition from the American Diabetes Association for offering high quality education services to its patients.

Initiated in 1986, the ADA education recognition is a voluntary process that assures approved education programs have met the ADA’s national standards for diabetes self-management education. Programs that achieve this recognition have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who provide state-of-the-art information about diabetes management for participants.

Diabetes self-management education is an essential component of diabetes treatment. Through the support of the health care team and increased knowledge and awareness of diabetes, self-management education empowers the patient to assume a major part of the responsibility for his/her diabetes management, and helps prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and some of the acute and chronic complications of diabetes.

Memorial’s Diabetes Treatment Program is part of the Health Center, which provides a range of educational and disease management programs. The Diabetes Treatment Program helps clients manage diabetes with inpatient and outpatient education and counseling. A physician’s referral is required.

For information about Memorial’s Diabetes Treatment Program, contact the Health Center at 572-7262.
