Policies and Procedures
The following guidelines are designed to help the Marketing and Communications department best meet the needs of the media. The federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) adds federal protection to patient privacy rights. These HIPAA privacy regulations strictly limit what patient information hospitals may share with the news media.
• All news media inquiries, in or outside of regular business hours, should be directed to the Marketing and Communications department.
• The Marketing and Communications department keeps a record of all media requests.
• The Marketing and Communications department connects members of the media with appropriate sources within the medical center for comment.
• A Marketing and Communications staff member must accompany members of the news media during all on-site interviews to maintain patient confidentiality. Please make arrangements with Marketing and Communications prior to arriving at the medical center.
• Reporters are requested to identify Memorial Medical Center by its full name. The full name and title of staff members should be used.
