    Facilities

    We perform all surgeries at our Memorial Medical Center campus in Modesto, where we use special beds, gurneys, scales, wheelchairs, furniture and other bariatric equipment to care for our patients postoperatively. Our nursing staff has completed intensive, specialized training to care for our bariatric patients, including postoperative care and sensitivity training.

    Medical Staff

    Patrick J. Coates, MD, FACS

    Bariatric Surgeon, Bariatric Program Medical Director
    Dr. Patrick Coates is board certified in general surgery and has extensive experience in bariatric surgery, including laparoscopic gastric bypass, vertical sleeve gastrectomy and revision surgeries. Dr. Coates is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, American College of Surgery and the Stanislaus Medical Society.     Antonio K. Coirin, MD

    Bariatric Surgeon
    Dr. Antonio Coirin is also board certified in general surgery. He performs laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, gastric bypass and vertical sleeve gastrectomy surgeries. Dr. Coirin is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgery. He has served as an assistant clinical professor for the University of California, Davis School of Medicine, and as past medical director of Memorial’s Bariatric Surgery Program.

    Mid-Level Practitioners

    Our surgeons’ mid-level practitioners (physician assistant and/or nurse practitioners) are intimately involved in preoperative evaluation, operative assistance, and postoperative care of our patients.

    Bariatric Program Nurse Coordinator

    Our bariatric nurse coordinator is the primary point of contact between referring physicians, patients, and the bariatric patient care staff at our state of the art medical facility. In addition, our nurse coordinator oversees the bariatric patient education program, monthly patient support group, and provides ongoing staff education in the area of bariatric surgery.

    Bariatric Program Dietitian

    Our bariatric program dietitian instructs our patients in the Health Center classes both before and after surgery giving extensive instruction on their new dietary habits and lifestyle.

    Consultants

    Pulmonologists, cardiologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and behavioral health specialists work with us to provide important input as needed.
