    Volunteer positions include the following:

    • Clerical Volunteer

      Provides clerical and reception support for the requesting department. Performs filing as requested, makes address/file labels, stuffs envelopes, sorts mail, makes copies on copy machine, and answers phones.

    • Crafts Volunteer

      Crafts Committee members create tray favors for the inpatients at Memorial Medical Center. The commitment is approximately 4 – 5 hours per month. Crafts does not meet during summer months.

    • Emergency Department Volunteer

      Assists Emergency Department staff as necessary in the management of the Emergency Department. Under the direction of the RN, volunteers restock carts, make frequent rounds of all patients to assess their needs. Assists with visitors as needed in the waiting area.

    • Family Birthing Center Volunteer

      Assists nurses at the Family Birthing Center in care of Family Birthing Center patients and in maintenance of the unit. Runs errands as needed to: Laboratory, Pharmacy, Mailroom, Central Supply, copy center, and performs other duties as assigned.

    • GifTree Volunteer

      Under the direction of the Gift Shop Manager, assists in gift selections, wraps gift items, operates cash register, assists in inventory when needed, and performs other duties as assigned.

    • Information Desk Volunteer

      Main Lobby Information Desk Volunteer assists visitors with patient location. Receives flowers, gifts and mail for patients. Receives and dispatches calls from Admitting and Nursing for patient admissions and discharges.

    • Intensive Care/Telemetry/Surgical/Acute Multi-Care Unit Volunteer

      Assists nurses where necessary in the care of patients and maintenance of unit. Volunteers help to maintain unit by a) helping put away supplies, and stocking meds, b) ordering supplies as needed, c) makes copies, d) and other duties as assigned.

    • My Story

      Volunteers visit with patients, engage them in conversation and collect “life story” information. The purpose of My Story is to promote improved patient care through communication and understanding as this an important part of the patient's healing process.

    • Patient Service Volunteer

      Assists family and visitors by providing location of patients. Responds to nursing requests, aids discharge of patients by providing wheelchair accompaniment of patients to waiting area. Delivers morning newspapers, mail and flowers to designated areas of the hospital. Directs or escorts visitors to various hospital areas.

    • Pediatric Unit Volunteer

      Under the direction of the RN, keeps playroom neat and organized, gives wagon/race car rides to pediatric patients, answers phones and relays messages as needed, distributes TV cart to pediatric patient’s rooms. Provides other duties as assigned.

    • Supervisor of Junior Volunteers

      Primarily responsible for supervising the activities of the Junior Volunteers during the afternoon/evening shift. In addition, this individual assists patients and visitors within the hospital, providing information about locations of patients and areas.

    • Same Day Surgery Volunteer

      Under the direction of the Surgical Services RN, maintains waiting area and assists visitors and family as needed. Puts together charts and provides other clerical duties.

    • Tour Guide Volunteer

      Coordinates tours with members of the community as requested, notifies departments to be visited of approximate arrival time so spokesperson will be available, greets and escorts tour groups to the designated departments.
