Memorial's Cancer Center 2015 Annual Report –
Advancements in Technology:
Sutter Health Memorial Medical Center’s (MMC) Radiation Oncology Department treats patients using the Varian True Beam linear accelerator. MMC is the first in the Central Valley to utilize this technology, which includes the ability to provide accurate, rapid delivery of radiation utilizing Varian’s RapidArc technology. With features including HD custom blocking, our care givers are able to further minimize normal tissue exposure and increase the dosage at the tumor site.
Where techniques such as stereotactic body radiotherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery previously took up to two hours for treatment delivery to a single patient, the same procedures can now be performed with the TrueBeam in fifteen minutes.
Memorial Medical Center’s Robotic Surgery program includes use of the da Vinci® Robotic Surgery System. This device is being utilized for various procedures for minimally invasive cancer surgeries that include prostate, kidney, bladder, gastrointestinal, endometrial and more.
Providing this greater level of treatment and service to the community also allows patients in our region to receive treatment locally versus having to travel out of the area.
